Hello friends!

Let’s answer some Qs.

L asks: I have a quick question about query letters. My book is a dual time line historical that deals both with 1940's fascism and modern day racial justice. Given the times, would it be an asset to add a line such as, "this book will appeal to readers concerned about the rise of fascism," or "this book will appeal to readers concerned about racial justice"?

My rule of thumb is one line is not going to make or break your query letter, as long as that line isn’t you’re an idiot agent and wouldn’t know a best seller if it bit you on the nose, etc. But also, those two things will probably be (painfully) clear to readers. Can’t hurt to shine a light on it, imho, but won’t make a difference either way on your chances of getting a response from an agent.
