Hi!

It’s question time! Let’s get some answers.

M asks: I'm working on a mental health memoir and sometimes express controversial opinions on topics like suicide. I've also disclosed my diagnoses and experience with psychosis on social media. I'm currently job searching in a different field and as a precaution, made my Instagram, etc. private and deleted parts of my social media bios and website. I'm losing several followers each week and only had about 1K to begin with. It's going to take a few months to get a new job (at minimum), but publishing my book is very important to me. Am I screwing myself over or does my amount of followers not matter if it's already that low?

Right now, because you’re still working on the book, it doesn’t matter. Building a platform is a long road, and if you have to take a break for a bit, that’s ok. The bigger question is, will the book affect your day job when it’s published? If it could hurt your chances for gainful employment to talk about your book-topic online, what will it be like after your book is published and out there?
