Hello my friends!

Shall we answer some questions today?

D asks: I just saw a novel published by someone with a long track record in genre fiction -- Regency romances, to be exact. The latest book is based on an actual figure who...is the same subject as my more "upmarket" novel, which is by virtue of biography set in the Regency period but is not genre fiction.

When I start querying my project, does the query letter have to acknowledge this other book? Has this new book torpedoed my chances? Very different prose styles but maybe that doesn't matter b/c the publishing world doesn't need two books about X person?
