We’re about a week and a half out from me reopening to queries (yes, I’m freaking out, too) and I wanted to share with you some of my super secret query tips. This is the real inside scoop! This is what agents really think works in a query letter!

I mean, at least this agent.

The thing everyone says you have to have in your query is bullshit.

And everyone says that thing is something different. If I really liked your book, I would probably overlook the fact that you forgot to put the title in your query (lol). If I really liked your book and you didn’t put the word count in there, as long as it wasn’t 567,000 words, I would just ask you for it and it would probably be ok. I don’t reject things out of hand because the author didn’t do one little thing. Agents are smart enough to evaluate what’s in front of us and ask questions if we need to. You don’t want to make it too easy for an agent to reject your work by not including the important things about your book (title, genre, word count, what your book is about), but you aren’t going to get rejected because you included your email but not your phone number.
