Val asks: I want to query US-based agents for my memoir. Does it matter in the slightest that my memoir is written in UK English? As in spelling, phrases more typically used in the UK, etc. I spent my formative years in the UK and all my personal writing (newsletter, social media) is in UK English, though for work I write in US English so if you say this is going to matter then I *could* write my manuscript in US English and be done with it. It’s just not my preferred way. I also have a small and potentially unjustified concern that if I use US English like I do for work, I might slip into “work” mode and tone and my writing won’t sound as authentically me. Am I overthinking this?
