My friends!

The time has come! I’m so excited to share with you the cover for my book WRITE THROUGH IT: An Insider’s Guide to Publishing and the Creative Life, due out on June 10th, 2025 by Simon Element. Here she is! Isn’t she pretty?

Inside you’ll find information on editing, queries, literary agents, book proposals, submissions, book deals, book production, book promotion, and what do to if your dreams do not come true. I cover the facts on all these things, and the feelings, as well. There are not one, but TWO special appendices with real life examples to help you with submissions. There are [redacted] number of ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I really hope you like it.

Preorder now!

This link will take you to all the places you can preorder the book. Preorders signal to retailers hey a bunch of people are interested in this book so you should stock a lot of them. It works this way at any retailer, the big box store, the big internet store, your local indie, your friendly neighborhood audiobook purveyor. You can request your local library buy the book, too! That counts! (This is what it looks like on the Brooklyn Public Library page, in case you’ve never done it before.) Ebooks count! Audiobooks count! Did you know that lots of preorders can actually encourage the publisher to print more books??? Yep, the final number of copies in the first print run is not even set yet. Your preorder really makes a difference.

I will have more info for you on in-person events (NYC for sure), where you can order signed copies, and the other fun stuff we have planned. Watch this space. Tell your friends to tell a friend1.

Let ME help YOU

Are you a writer and people always ask you how to get an agent? Send them to my book.

Are you an editor and you wish someone could explain book promotion to your author? Send them to my book.

Does your uncle remember you had that publishing internship once and thinks you can help him publish his 679 page memoir? Send. Him. To. My. Book.

This is my public service to you and for you.

Why should you buy the book if you’re already reading this newsletter?

Because a book is a different thing than a newsletter. I have more space to go in-depth in a book (b/c let’s be honest this newsletter here today is already too long). I have more space to give context to each piece of information so you can see how book proposals fit in with submissions and editor acquisitions and book promotion and everything else. But you can also dip in and dip out of the book, when you need a refresher on how advances work or some cheerleading when you get yet another rejection. Books have indexes, which are shockingly easier to navigate than archive keyword search!

Why should you stay here if you buy the book?

Wouldn’t you miss my sparkling wit twice a week????? No, but really, the newsletter will be the place for info and commentary about stuff as publishing grows and changes and evolves (not that anything in the US is in FLUX right now or anything). The newsletter will be your reminder to oh yeah get your landing page up on your website (and/or tell you want a landing page is).2 We’ll always do Q&A Thursdays for paid subscribers, and there will be some REALLY fun newsletter-only promotion stuff when the book comes out. Stay tuned! You being here might mean I even get to write ANOTHER book after this one! (Fingers crossed.)

Prepare to see that pretty cover more often, my friends. I even got a manicure to match.

Thanks for supporting me, this newsletter, and soon, this book. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

OXOXOXOX,

Kate
