Really appreciate the insights here — creative burnout is real.

When I hit a block, I switch gears with sprunki online(https://sprunky.org ) — a super fun, browser-based music game that helps reset your brain and spark new ideas.

"literary agents were the main access point to publication" They remain the only access to the Big 5, and nearly all the prestige independents.

Also not so sure "many authors do extremely well with self publishing". I'm seeing almost nobody do well, let alone extremely well. There's lots of reasons for self publishing, but selling a lot of books isn't one of them. I'm talking standard titles, of course. There's some killing it with coloring books and the like.

Also thanks Kate for posting. It's refreshing to get something other than rainbows and unicorns. That's all you see on most writing sites. Bravo

The work my publisher does putting my words into a beautiful object is well worth their percentage.

HUGE fan of Victoria's works now for many years. Sadly, there are many in this industry who take advantage of those looking to become an author. Victoria's blog is a beacon of great information. Jane Friedman too https://janefriedman.com.
